WAITING — New performance by Fulcro Theatre Company based on documentary films by Itai Anghel

About
“Waiting” is one of the central states of war. Waiting as hope, waiting as despair, waiting you cannot interrupt while the war continues; waiting that, like war itself, becomes endless.

Here, the experience of war is explored through a profoundly vulnerable lens — the lens of women. In global cultural narratives of war, the female role is often rendered passive. And even in Israel, despite mandatory military service, active participation in wartime is still predominantly associated with men, while women are left in the position of waiting.

The performance features documentary footage collected by renowned Israeli war correspondent Itai Anghel during his assignments in conflict zones around the world.

The philosophical voice of the play is interwoven with the voices of real women who have lived through war in Congo, Syria, Ukraine, and other countries. Sometimes they appear as victims, sometimes as fighters; the nature of their waiting differs, but the state itself remains constant.

This work is created entirely by women.

The text on stage is spoken by women; the documentary protagonists are women; all designers and artists involved are women.
Since the outbreak of the war on October 7, the number of actively working female artists in Israel has dropped significantly. With this project, a young theatre company has brought together women who continue to speak about what is happening in the world right now — despite the acute sense of vulnerability.
